CAPILANO UNIVERSITY Landing Page Redesign
Incorporating UX Design learnings and in collaboration with IT Services
Situation
While working at Capilano University, my role expanded beyond traditional print design to include digital communications across the university’s website, social media platforms, and online channels. As the institution continued to improve its digital presence, there was an opportunity to create more flexible and user-focused approaches for presenting school and program information online.
Task
To strengthen my digital design skills, I completed a UX Design certification with a focus on Interaction Design through the Nielsen Norman Group. I applied this knowledge to support the redesign of CapU’s school landing pages, with the goal of creating a flexible page structure that could better serve users while meeting the needs of various academic departments.
Action
I collaborated with the IT department, Communications team, and internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements, content needs, and user considerations. I developed a modular landing page template system that balanced consistency with flexibility, allowing individual schools to showcase their programs and information while remaining aligned with the broader CapU website experience.
Using user-centered design principles, I created new page components that complemented existing website elements while introducing more engaging and intuitive ways to organize content. Initial concepts and layouts were developed in Figma before moving into implementation, ensuring designs were both visually effective and technically feasible within the university’s existing website infrastructure.
Result
The redesigned landing page system provided Capilano University with a more flexible and engaging approach to presenting academic information online. By combining UX principles, visual communication, and cross-functional collaboration, the project improved the digital experience for prospective students while giving internal teams a more adaptable framework for future content needs.
