INTERNATIONAL STUDENT GUIDE 2021–2022

Situation

Capilano University’s Centre for International Experience used an annual recruitment guide to connect with prospective international students at events and education fairs. The previous publication was a lengthy, text-heavy booklet of more than 30 pages, containing a large amount of detailed information that had become difficult for audiences to navigate—especially as much of the program and fee information was now available online.

Task

Working in collaboration with the Centre for International Experience team, I was tasked with rethinking the guide’s format and visual approach to create a more engaging and effective recruitment tool. The goal was to simplify the content, improve usability, and create a publication that would stand out in a competitive international recruitment environment.

Action

I reviewed the existing content and worked with stakeholders to identify the most essential information for prospective students. I restructured the guide into clear, concise sections and developed a compact bi-fold format that prioritized readability and ease of navigation.

Through thoughtful information design, strong visual hierarchy, and engaging imagery, I created a resource that balanced practical information with an inspiring representation of the Capilano University experience. The design system was developed to be visually impactful while remaining functional for use at international events and recruitment fairs.

Result

The redesigned guide transformed an overwhelming, text-heavy publication into a streamlined and approachable recruitment piece. The new format improved the user experience, made key information easier to access, and provided the Centre for International Experience team with a more effective tool for engaging prospective international students.
